David Beckham With 109 Caps!

109 caps for David Beckham. A record number of appearance for an outfield player. He had bettered lengendary England captain Bobby Moore's 108 outfield appearances.

David Beckham despite achieving this remarkable feat is not celebrated like Bobby Moore, who captained the england squad to a World Cup. Or Sir Bobby Charlton, who achieved a World Cup medal and a 49 goals record in his international career.

David had been part of an england team that had been perennial underachievers. Throughout his time in the England team set up, the trophy closet had remained empty.

His critics, of whom there continue to be many, loathed that Becks be mentioned in the same breath as the brilliant Moore. They say his fame rather than form had helped him retain a place in the international team long after he actually deserves it.

I personally feel that it is too harsh a criticism on Becks. He is not a gifted footballer. He does not have the skills of Ronaldinho, the pace of Aaron Lennon and the leadership of Bobby Moore. However he is a player with strong work ethics.

In order to better his chance of getting selected for England games, he was willing to compensate LA Galaxy to extend his loan stay at AC Milan. The rationale behind this is that Capello will only pick him if he is playing at the highest level.

Despite Beckham's age, he will still be an asset to the England team wih his pin point crosses. If he makes it to his fourth successive appearance at the World Cup Finals, People will finally accept him as a great footballer too. And love him as much as they loved Bobby Moore.
