O'Neill is the best says Laursen

Skipper Laursen insists Villa can hold off Arsenal for fourth place and play in next season’s Champions League.

O’Neill has been in charge for 2½ years. And the Danish defender said: “It’s unbelieveable how much the manager has transformed the club.

“Villa were a sleeping giant but I never dreamt we would have this chance. We were fighting relegation at one point and the Big Four were miles ahead.”

Laursen has been out since a knee op in January but is targeting a comeback at Manchester United on April 5.

He added: “It’s been difficult to sit out such an exciting time.”

O'Neill and O'leary. What is their difference? O'Leary took the club to 6th during his first season in charge and was mooted as the club's saviour. Claimed to have awaken the sleeping giant when he brought the club to respectable league table standings. It had become almost invariable for managers to receive a lot of compliment when they do a job at Villa.

But is Villa a very difficult team to manage? A club that is steep in tradition like Villa needs more than just a fourth spot? Martin O'neill threw the game at CSK Moscow when he rested 8 first team players. I don't think any giant will do such a thing. It is not good sportsmanship and O'neill ought to be reprimanded not celebrated.

Aston Villa Vs CSK Moscow UEFA tie preview

Villa take on CSKA Moscow at Villa Park on Wednesday. (1st leg)

1.The Russians have not played competitively since November so they may not be so fit compared to Villa.

2.CSKA has have Brazilian world cup winner Zico taking over Valeri Gazzaev to coach the club. The players will need some time to build an understanding with the new coach.

3.Villa will welcome back Gareth Barry in place of the suspended Steve Sidwell who is suspended for this game.

4.Emile Heskey is still nursing an Achilles tendon injury, meaning John Carew gets another chance to prove himself up front.

5.Curtis Davies and James Milner should also start after recovering from knocks picked up at Goodison.

This is a very evenly match game and the result could turn either way. Villa had been unlucky to have lost to Everton in the Cup match not too long ago. And the loss had snapped their record breaking 7 away consecutive winning streak. Undoubtedly, this would have dented the Villa players morale but Villa are one of the quickest teams in European football at the moment so it will be interesting to see how Zico prepares his side. I am predicting a narrow Villa win 1-0, given the situation of the 2 teams. Definitely an entertaining game where the British speed will be pitted against the Brazilian trickery.

Martin O'neill hates january window!

Andrei Arshavin's move have been completed after the deadline. It is very unfair! Feeling angry, Martin O'neill is suggesting scrapping the January window altogether. Eventhough he had reaped instant rewards from this current window. Emile Heskey had moved to Villa in a 3.5 million pound deal and is in splendid form... He said,

Should the transfer window stay? I hope not.
"
"I think if the Premier League haven't discussed it, then they should do. It is a waste of a month.

"I accept the fact a couple of years ago it was fine for us when we brought in people like Ashley Young and John Carew.

"But you have got to look at this situation because it is claustrophobic. I see it serving no fantastic benefit. I don't know what the point of it is."

He added: "An extension of time at least would be something. I know that the reasons for it coming in was so that clubs couldn't end up effectively being able to buy the European Cup and I accept that you can't go on buying forever.

"You can't arrive at a cup final and still have the ability to buy nine players the night before. But a bit of an extension would do no harm."
