Rafael Benitez said: " Fernando Torres will play more than 10 minutes. If everything is ok he will play more than 10 minutes. Maybe eleven, twelve minutes."

The question seemed to have caught Benitez by surprise. However he quickly recovered his composure and said:" We usually bring in DVDs and try to find out more information. We will do the same now. We will have to check with our people and see if we have more information."

I do not think the Singapore fans will mind the Liverpool players' performance on the pitch. They just want to see their heroes play in the flesh!

Carragher Wants To Bash Arbeloa Shows Positive Mentality!

A fight almost broke out between Carragher and Arbeloa during the West Brom match yesterday. The pair almost came to blows 10 minutes from time when they had collided while trying to clear a Marc-Antoine Fortuné's strke on goal. Xabi Alonso and Daniel Agger had to separate the pair as they jostled.

Benitez claimed the incident showed "a positive message in terms of our mentality".

Benitez is talking loads of bullshit these days.

Why can't he admit that the Liverpool's team spirit is at its lowest ebb now and another major playing staff reshuffle is on cards..

Benitez Thinks 5 Goals Is Too Little

A defeat of this score line is hard to swallow. It had dented Villa's chances of a top 4 finish. Although there are still many games to play for, but the pyschological damage is immense. I did not see the entire process since I shut the TV off at half time.

As well as Gerrard's hat trick, Albert Riera and Dirk Kuyt were also on the scoresheet.

Benitez said: 'We scored goals but didn't play particularly well.' Villa keeper Brad Friedel was sent off in the build-up to the penalty which saw Gerrard seal his hat-trick.

Gerrard said: 'It always sends a message when you win convincingly. Everyone knows confidence is high here.

'It's important we just focus on what we are doing, keep on United's shoulders and keep piling that pressure on them.'

Benitez's comments had been very insulting. But there is really little you can defend yourself with when you lose 5 nil.

Bring On Villa, I Want The Title Says Benitez

Benitez can't wait for the Villa match to kick off. And he is voicing his confidence in the team's chances against Villa.

He also believes that Liverpool are strong contenders for the title now given Man Utd earlier falter at Craven Cottage.

“Everyone wants to talk about us and Chelsea [in the Champions League], but we know, if we want to stay close to United, we need to concentrate on Aston Villa,” the Spaniard told The Guardian.

“If we want to remain in the title race, we have to beat Villa.”

“A few Premier League teams play long ball, so we're used to it,” he said.

“We have to maybe change two or three movements of certain players, that's all.”

Benitez Is A Useless Chequebook Boss

Replying Benitez earlier rants that Sir Alex Ferguson's exorbitant expenditures on signings in the last 5 years, Fergie had insisted his transfer spending amounted to £24million less than Benitez’s since 2004.

And he told Benitez he should be dealing in facts following his infamous rant earlier this season.

“I was amazed when I saw what Rafa said,” said Fergie.

“I talked to the people in our sports technology department and said ‘check that out’ because I was sure I hadn’t spent that much.

“Then I worked out that in the last five years Liverpool have spent £24m more than us. So Rafa is well ahead of us.

“But I think you’ll see Rafa go on an incredible spending spree now. That’s an absolute certainty now he’s signed a new contract. They talk of a recession but there won’t be one at Liverpool.”

Fergie could not resist a further dig at Benitez, accusing him of being a chequebook boss who does not have the long-term vision to invest in young players in the way United have. “We’ve signed 18 players in the last five years,” said Fergie. “Eight of them are young players and there’s a balance about doing things correctly with us.

“We like to develop our young players but other clubs are maybe different. Rafa has a different philosophy to me but that’s the great thing about football – everyone has a different way of doing things.”

Although Benitez will get about £40m to strengthen his squad, Fergie said he would also be spending big and praised United’s owners, the Glazers, for always letting him land the players he wants.

I wonder why Benitez kept complaining that the Glazers did not give hm enough funds. He had ranted when he could not bring Gareth Barry to Liverpool last season. However he had been given 20 million pounds to waste on Robbie Keane. Weird chap.

Gerrard Has Something To Say To Manchester United

Gerrard says "The important thing is that we have made the gap smaller (United lead by four points still with a game in hand). We realise that Manchester United are a fantastic team and there's still a lot of work to do.

"We'll need a little bit of luck along the way but hopefully that gives teams that are going to play against Manchester United a bit of belief that they can be beaten. And hopefully it will give us a lot of confidence to go on and win as many games as we can."

Can they beat Chelsea?

Arguably the most important match of the season.

Rafael says he can get the season on track. Or can he? He had drawn 4 out of 5 games this season. How will the results pan out this time? Another lacklustre performance, or a win that will propel them to the top once more.

Despite Rafael's crazy "everything is crazy" commenting following the draw at Wigan on Wednesday, the Spanish coach seemed perfectly at ease with himself yesterday, as he explained his comments.

He said "When I talked of 'crazy' after Wigan, there were too many balls given away, too many fouls, too many throw-ins - everything was out of control and I wasn't happy," he said.
"It was everything together, but I didn't want to say too much on Wednesday, although that doesn't matter now.

"We drew the game and have to win against Chelsea, that's what I am concentrating on."
Benitez smiled and said "We are eight points better off than last season and everything is very, very positive," he said.
"We are third, two points behind the leader and doing well, which is much, much better than over the last ten years or so, so you have to be positive.

"I'm really pleased to be in this position. When you fight against relegation and you're losing games, everyone is disappointed and under pressure.

"When you are trying to win the Premier League and progress in the FA Cup and Champions League, that's not pressure."

Lets pray Liverpool don't falter and give Manchester United a race to the finishing line.
