With little moments of inspiration and woeful errors throughout the game, one might have thought this was a Championship game. On this evidence, a 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Manchester City was a fair result.

Despite a combined spending of almost £400m, there was little evidence that either side has the quality that merits Champions League football next season.
